Shaw Nature Reserve

Shaw Nature Reserve There was a rumor that the next morning would be a foggy one. I do so love shooting fog. It has the ability to transform almost any landscape into something mystical and beautiful. I rose at 4 a.m the next morning eager to go shoot. Since I live in the city however, I was not immediately confronted with it. I waited around until 5:30-ish,  and headed out to Gray Summit, Missouri to the Shaw Nature Reserve, nearly an hour away. I was literally racing the sunrise on my drive there.

Babler Memorial State Park

Babler State Park I’d never been to Babler, but was interested in exploring something new. I was primarily looking for some unique features, and didn’t exactly find that here. However, the hike was peaceful and beautiful nonetheless. In my opinion there’s no such thing as a wasted hike. More about this history-filled spot can be found here.

Castlewood State Park

Castlewood State Park Castlewood State Park is only about a half hour from where I live, so it makes for a quick getaway. On this particular early morning, I set out with medium format and digital in hand to capture what I’d hoped to be some of the more beautiful elements of the park this late in the Fall season.

Lake Austin

Lake Austin This October I had the opportunity to go to Austin and was lucky enough to be in a hotel right at this pretty lake. Or is it a river? I’m actually not sure and am going under certain assumptions that it is indeed, “Lake Austin.” Whatever the case, this is a perfect example of how beautifully nature and city can mix.

St. Francois State Park

St Francois State Park St. Francois State Park is just one those magnificent places I can never get enough of. I often refer to it as “my heart.” When visiting, you really get a feel for the Ozark terrain. Vast forests, rolling hills, fascinating rock formations and glades make up this 2,000 acre beauty, and I can never get enough of it (I know I said that already). There is something truly awe inspiring to be surrounded with such marvelous, undefaced nature. There are times along the Pike Run trail that every horizon is met with enormous hills and trees. When I visited this time, it was during the summer, and right after a flood. It did not make for the most relaxing experience since all the trails were washed away. But, I was determined to get some pretty summer shots, for the first time. More about this marvelous place can be found here.
